Counseling for Children
We don't expect our children to be born with the skills they need to read or write. Many of us forget that understanding complicated feelings and regulating emotions must also be taught. Let us help your son or daughter make sense of their feelings, share them with you, and calm themselves down when they feel overwhelmed.
We teach skills while we play. We use art, music, and games to help with everyday challenges like bedtime, transitioning away from TV, and not following directions. We also treat children with more significant concerns including ADHD, past trauma, sensory processing issues, anxiety, and depression. In cases where trauma or complex medical issues are present, we provide more in depth interventions and collaborate with your medical or naturopathic specialists.
We are proud to partner with children and help them express their thoughts and emotions without the challenging behaviors that drive parents crazy and get them in trouble. We believe teaching children how to recognize emotions and communicate them to others helps to avoid tantrums and empowers kids to cope with “big feelings” in safe and appropriate ways. We want to help them solve their problems and support your child in making fulfilling connections.
Sensory Sensitivity
We offer a sensory sensitive environment with tools and toys that fit your child’s sensory needs. We address common treatment barriers that parents of children with special needs appreciate such as a treatment space that is fragrance free with natural light and low stimulation. We offer a variety of modalities to support social communication skills, behavioral intervention, and positive parent/child interaction. We will collaborate with your child's teacher, occupational therapist, chiropractor, massage therapist, naturopath, speech language pathologist, psychologist, psychiatrist or pediatrician to provide a collaborative approach to counseling. We want to partner with all of the treatment providers who support your child and are eager to collaborate.
Call for a free consultation so we can explore your child's individual needs. We are happy to answer any questions.
School Support
We also support children who are struggling at school socially or academically. We have experience with IEP and 405 plans. We work closely with teachers and parents to help children reach their potential. Classroom observations, helping parents and teachers select appropriate accommodations for IEPs, and meeting with teachers and staff are just some of the ways we help children to be successful at school.
